This past saturday, Ashley and I went to Josh's wedding in statesville. It was a very nice ceremony except for a small snafoo in the lighting of the unity candle. Each set of parents lights one candle on either side of a larger candle. Then the bride and groom use those two candles to light the center candle in a symbolic gesture. Both Josh and Krista's candles went out in the process of trying to light the center candle. But Josh, being ever resourcefull, grabbed a candle off the candelabra on the alter and used it to light the unity candle. I'm not sure about the symbolism of the entire affair but it was interesting. The pastor was kind of annoying. He kept making references to "the man going first as is the tradition of the church". I mean once would have probably been too much but before everything that they did... They said their vows, the man goes first, they declared their intention to marry, the man goes first, they exchanged rings, the man goes first. Even Ashley was offended by the end of it.
The reception was in the fellowship hall of the church. There was a buffet line and tables for people to sit at. Punch only, no alcohol, even for the bride and grooms toast. They had a cake with a fountain under it and several satellite cakes sitting around the main three layer one. After photos, Josh and Krista came in, ate their piece of cake, toasted, danced one song on the stage by themselves, threw the boquet and garter and then left. The whole event was over in under 2 and a half hours.
They got to ride away in a fire truck with the lights and sirens going. Apparently, Krista's brother sells the trucks and borrowed one for the occasion.
In other news, I had chocolate chip pancakes at IHOP last night. It was sooooo much chocolaty goodness.
